Reportedly, Rimoi National Reserve, which is located at the valley of Elgeyo Marakwet (Kewanin), is home for over 300 elephants. This makes it indispensable to prioritize its existence. This is a big number but the numerical advantage has been threatened through repeated poaching by perpetrators whose skills of performing the aforementioned seem to have increased doubly. Coincidentally, the day #TeamKewanin visited the park to celebrate one of the things that bestows pride to Kenya is the same day that the president sent a harsh message to Ivory traders about their illegal business. Uhuru Kenyatta pioneered burning of ivory worth…why am I even telling you this, I bet by now you already know. That was a courageous move by the president as opposed to critics who thought otherwise. The deprivation of the market by such a big amount of ivory, would starve and destabilize their business. This would in turn save ‘OUR’ elephants!!!( Simplistic explanation, detailed one coming soon)
The visit was worth every penny we dished out to visit the park. Apart from the elephants, some other animals which we were able to catch a glimpse at include DikDiks, Zebras, Giraffes and Crocodiles. Dressed by #HiltenWear, our presence all the way was greatly felt as we did no fail to visit other tourist hotspots like the view points and places like the Chebloch Gorge where we met Kerio Divers who make a fortune by diving into the gorge as local and international tourists alike enjoy themselves by watching them perform their theatrics.
